On December 10, 2024, the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) dedicated its newly extended and upgraded Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant at South Camp.
This significant event was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Fumio Iwai, Ambassador Designate of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and his staff; the MFO’s Director General, Ms. Elizabeth L. Dibble; the Director General’s Representative in Cairo, Mr. Brad Lynch; the Force Commander, Major General Michael Garraway, and members of the MFO team.
The RO Plant project, completed thanks to generous supplemental funding provided by the Government of Japan, represents a significant enhancement in the MFO's operational capabilities. The upgraded facility plays a crucial role in supporting the MFO's mission by providing a consistent and reliable source of clean water.
By upgrading and expanding the RO Plant we have successfully addressed increased water needs at South Camp, provided enhanced resiliency, and enabled the production of potable water. In addition, the new plant makes use of energy recovery technology to save on electrical costs. It also features a Japanese Garden which was designed and implemented under the supervision of the two Japanese Contingent personnel in the Force Engineering Office. The garden features a cascade that utilizes some of the water before it is returned to the sea.
The MFO is exceedingly grateful to the Government of Japan for funding this project in addition to its regular contribution to our operating budget. In addition to its many years of financial support, Japan provides key personnel, like those who assisted with this project, to ensure the success of our mission and continued stability in Sinai.
The completion of the RO Plant is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and dedication. It marks a significant milestone in the MFO's efforts to enhance operational capabilities and improves the quality of life for all personnel at South Camp.
