MFO

People Strategy

At the MFO, our people are united by a shared purpose: supporting peace and regional stability. Civilian and military personnel serve side by side, bringing skill, judgment, professionalism, and respect to work that has real impact.

The MFO looks for candidates who are motivated by service, committed to high standards, and ready to play their part in a multinational environment. At the MFO, employees work across cultures, functions, and locations, with opportunities to learn, collaborate, lead, and grow while contributing to a mission that matters.

The MFO People Strategy defines how we attract, develop, and support the people who make this mission possible. It reflects what we offer as an employer, what we expect from those who join us, and how we build the readiness, resilience, and organizational effectiveness needed for the future.

Our guiding principles and strategic pillars bring this commitment to life by showing candidates and employees what it means to work, serve, and grow with the MFO.

Three Guiding Prinicipals

1. One Team, One Mission

We take pride in achieving the MFO’s mission and understanding how our individual jobs support it. We understand that the MFO’s mission is a shared responsibility, guided by organizational goals aligned across locations, teams, and individuals. We hold each other and ourselves accountable and know and respect that all jobs are vital to the overall success of the MFO. We pride ourselves in creating an inclusive, collaborative work environment that creates a sense of belonging and allows us all to bring different perspectives, ideas, and experience to the work we do. We know that together, we are bigger than the sum of our parts.

2. Continuous Improvement

We understand the complexity of our operational environment and know that we must continuously improve to meet the daily challenges of our work. Each of us serves as a steward of MFO resources, ensuring that people and funds provided by Supporting States are used in the most efficient and responsible manner. We act with integrity and are committed to excellence. We embrace new solutions and learnings, adapt to changing realities, and take full ownership of our jobs. We encourage feedback and proactively seek better ways to do our work.

3. People: Our Greatest Resource

We know that our people are the MFO’s greatest resource. Given the nature of our work, we are regularly challenged with reconciling the demands of our mission with the needs of our employees. We understand that many of us must perform our duties in challenging environments away from family. This requires us to respond rapidly to changing situations and requirements, while remaining mindful of the impact on our people and families.

Three Strategic Pillars

1. Talent Acquisition and Management

We seek qualified, capable, and mission-oriented people who bring the skills, experience, and judgment needed to perform effectively in a complex international environment. Through strategic recruitment, performance management, retention, workforce planning, and succession practices, we work to ensure the MFO has the right capabilities in the right place at the right time.

2. Learning and Development

We support employees and leaders from onboarding through continued professional growth. Our learning approach strengthens role readiness, reinforces MFO standards and policies, develops accountable leaders and managers, and enables employees to build the technical, professional, and behavioral capabilities needed to contribute fully to mission success.

3. Care and Support

We strive to foster a fair, healthy, and inclusive work environment where people feel respected, valued, and able to contribute. This includes maintaining competitive compensation and benefits, strengthening health and wellness support, modernizing HR policies and systems, and helping leaders apply people-centered practices that build trust and belonging.
