Remote Sites

Twenty-eight MFO remote operational sites -- Sector Control Centers (SCCs), Observation Posts (OP's) and Check Points (CP's) -- are located throughout Zone C. The MFO soldiers at these sites perform the vital observation and reporting functions of the peacekeeping force, and are supported at their posts by the MFO logistics and communications systems. All required water, food, fuel for on site generators and other necessary supplies must be transported from the camps to support the soldiers on duty at these generally isolated sites. Expanding infrastructure in the Southern and Northern Sinai is permitting incremental connection of MFO sites to Egyptian civil electrical and telephone systems.

A SCC consists of a minimum of one officer, an operations section, a medic, and a rifle squad. It serves as a Command Post (CP) under the command of a company commander. It is also a squad OP.

An OP consists of one squad with one NCO continuously located in the field site area. It serves to observe and report. The MFO has two Temporary OPs (TOPs) that are continuously manned.

A CP consists of one squad with one NCO continuously located in the field site area. It serves as a control point for MFO traffic entering or leaving treaty Zone C. It also functions as an OP.
